Information about Yoga Lessons
Yoga is a physical and spiritual practice. Yoga should be about using poses (asanas) to connect with our bodies and that bit of the Divine inside each of us. It is the greatest gift of any practice to help others and myself feel more connected; body, mind and spirit.
I teach from a style of yoga founded by John Friend called Anusara Yoga. John has developed a set of Universal Alignment Principles that I find easy to use and teach to other people. He is a dynamic and well rounded yoga teacher as well as a bright light in any gloomy day. I am slowly but surely working toward becoming a certified teacher of Anusara Yoga.

Upcoming Workshops
With the holiday season upon us, I feel inclined to wait until the new year to offer any more workshops. However, private lessons are still available, see below. May you enjoy this time of year with those you love and cherish!
Class/Lesson Philosophy
Yoga classes/lessons should be safe and enjoyable experiences. For that reason please keep the following four things in mind when you come to a yoga lesson with me:
- Yoga is a noncompetitive practice, even with yourself. Our bodies change every day. Some days we are tighter than others. Be kind to yourself. Try to think of yoga as a playful exploration of your body. So, those who fall over the most are probably having the most fun!
- Our bodies store emotions, and as you get connected with your body these emotions may surface. This is perfectly normal and wonderful thing. If you do experience this, please don't try to hide it or deny it, just stop your practice and breathe. Allow yourself the opportunity to fully experience the emotion. Only then can you take steps to heal it if need be.
- Please, please ask questions. If my instructions are unclear, ask me. If something doesn't feel right, ask me. If you have an injury or health condition, tell me. I am no mind reader and I don't know everything there is to know about you or yoga. Please treat our relationship as a partnership, we must communicate in order for it work well.
- Lastly, any time I ask you to change something in a pose, please don't think of it as a correction. Your poses are beautiful just as they are each and every day. I only suggest things to help you explore the possibilities of a pose.
Lessons tend to run between 1 hour and 75 minutes and are $40. You may choose to come to private lessons because you don't feel comfortable in a class setting or because you would like more focused help with certain poses. All levels of students are welcome to take private lessons. I do begin each lesson with an invocation and a pranayama (breathing) practice. Lessons end with a relaxation pose and/or meditation.
